We’ll miss you, ‘Tinware Man’ Alan

by

Fondly known as The Tinware Man at such events as the Stafford shows, the Founder’s Day Rally, Kempton Park and the Netley Marsh autojumbles, Alan Fergus Swainson passed away at the beginning of October with his family at his bedside.

On a trusty wartime Matchless Alan Swainson, who passed away on October 1, was pictured at a military event in Normandy.

Born in 1937 and a talented craftsman, Alan was respected for his exceptional metalwork skills and had many a story to tell, including trips to the battlefields of France on his various motorcycles with neither maps nor any knowledge of the French language.

A member of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club and AJS & Matchless Owners’ Club, he was a lovely man who will be sadly missed.

We are grateful to Grace and Clyde Cardy for this obituary.
