In a direct contradiction to John’s winter riding across Europe, Stuart Bennett travelled to the warmth of a museum in Spain.
Next time you holiday on the Costa Blanca, and you tire of the sun, the sand and the sangria, why not leave the coast and venture a few miles (or kilometres) inland from Benidorm? There is another world to explore, and set in the beautiful valley of the River Guadalest is a gem of a historic vehicles museum.
There are more than 140 motorbikes, together with some exotic microcars, the like of which I would bet you have never seen before!
There are some 50 different manufacturers represented, dating from the ‘20s to the ‘70s, all restored to working order, and displayed in a huge area, with no restrictions on photography or fondling!
Naturally, most of the machinery on display is continental in origin, but a few British marques are in evidence, and in prominent positions to boot!
Or how about a BMW armoured sidecar outfit?
With sidecar wheel drive, and complete with machinegun mount, this has, fortunately, never seen action, and was apparently one of a batch left behind by the Germans, at the end of the war. If your taste is more agricultural, there are several scooter-derived farm carts on view, and an amazing range of ‘bubblecars’.
