MARCH 2017 PREVIEW: Pete Kelly visits Chris Davies at West Midlands Triumph Tiger Cub specialists Meriden Off Road, to learn about his latest product plus preparations for his forthcoming speed record attempt on Pendine Sands in South Wales.
Triumph Terrier and Tiger Cub machines must still be coming out of the woodwork, for ever since Chris Davies set up Meriden Off Road five years ago, he’s been busy with restorations, engine rebuilds, alloy welding and other work as well as building up an impressive stock of new spare parts to keep the little Tiggers growling!
The latest items are beautifully-machined forged connecting rods to fit all Tiger Cub engines, complete with caged roller-bearing big ends and crank pins that come in standard as well as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 thou oversizes.
After thoroughly testing one of the rods without problems, Chris is now offering them for sale at £200 for the standard 200cc Tiger Cub engine and £225 for those with bigger small-end bushes for 220cc engines.
Indeed he’ll be using one of the rods in the special Tiger Cub engine that he’s preparing for the 1954 Triumph Terrier plunger-framed machine on which he’ll be bidding for a 300cc record on the historic Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire on Saturday, May 13; and after changing engines he’ll be having a crack at the 200cc record on the Sunday as well.
