While various AJS and Matchless models used a front wheel spindle that utilised taper roller bearings running directly on to the spindle, the spindles themselves became obsolete and unavailable quite some time ago.
Usually fitted to bikes manufactured between 1950 and 1962 (some bikes made outside of this timeframe may also have them fitted), a worn or damaged spindle may, at one point, have been a serious issue, but thankfully that is no longer the case!
The Vintage Bearing Company now has the appropriate replacement spindles back in stock, at £160 including UK postage.
They can be ordered, along with many other bearings, seals and lubricants, from the website at www.vintagebearings.co.uk, by calling Phil Haywood direct on 01283 509562 or emailing [email protected].
