The 2009 Honda CBR1000RR on which John McGuinness achieved the first 131mph lap of the Isle of Man TT course has been loaned to the Lakeland Motor Museum by the aptly named ‘Morecambe Missile’.

John used the bike to win the Superbike TT that year – his 15th title – and then in the Senior he knocked nine seconds from his previous best to average 131.578mph.

The museum’s manager Chris Lowe said: “We have a special exhibition marking the astonishing achievements of riders taking on the challenge of the TT, and it’s fantastic to welcome another record-breaker with such an important history.

“We’re helping to preserve that heritage by not cleaning the flies off the bike from its last race.”
