John Surtees: memories are made of this

by

Instead of printing a long missive about the life of John Surtees CBE, who sadly passed away on March 10, Old Bike Mart has decided to remember his motorcycle racing career in several outstanding photographs from the Mortons Archive.

Surtees (Norton) leads Geoff Duke (Gilera) at the Mountside Hairpin at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount circuit in 1955.

We suggest instead that readers wishing to pay tribute to one of the true heroes of British motorcycle and motor sport either donate something directly to the Henry Surtees Foundation, which was set up in memory of his son Henry, or by obtaining a copy of John’s book, My Incredible Life on Two and Four Wheels, which costs £50 and from which all royalties go towards the Foundation.

Details of how to donate towards the Foundation can be found by clicking on the donation box at henrysurteesfoundation.com, and the book is available from Amazon, evropublishing.com or any good specialist bookshop.
