While the oldest of classic machinery doesn’t actually require a speedometer by law, much of our classic bikes do, although it has to be said that many classic bikes don’t have particularly accurate speedos as standard.
While there are a great number of options for an aftermarket chronometer, not all have the classic style that this standalone instrument from Digital Speedos has.
As the supplier’s name suggests, this isn’t a unit that is mechanically-driven, but is completely unique as it not only features the dial face layout of a chronometric speedo but is completely self-contained, with no wiring required as it operates from a rechargeable battery within the speedometer’s casing, and picks up its speed from global positioning satellites – no drive cables to fit, or to break, and no additional wiring to be undertaken.
The unit is perfect for vintage and classic bikes not just because of its style and accuracy, but also because it is able to be moved from bike to bike, which could be a definite bonus for those of us with more than one classic motorcycle.
The normal retail price will be £425, although the price at the launch in Shepton Mallet will be £395 including VAT. More details are available from Jon at Digital Speedos on 01564 775522 or at www.digital-speedos.co.uk
