Camier’s

by

Having read Steve Brown’s recent letter in last month’s OBM, I wondered if that would be retired Sgt. Brown, who would caution us on our old Brit bikes back in the ’70s then later own a nice small collection of Triumphs himself?

I used to visit Burt Camier’s lovely old shop in Wish Ward, Rye, East Sussex, regularly. When he was closing down, I was just starting up my own business and bought all his British spares including an AJS 500, plus some fittings and workshop accessories. Burt’s nephew, Dave, was a very good engineer and sorted several awkward jobs for me, and he successfully raced a Dommi twin.

I enclose a photo of the old oil dispensary tank and a Lucas wiring rail, both from Burt Camier’s shop, that now stand in my small private motorcycle museum here on the neighbouring Isle Of Oxney.
