The morning of Sunday, June 2 dawned bright, and saw picturesque Wells Market Place full with motorcycles of all ages, plus many spectators viewing and admiring the fine array of machines that were entered for the ninth Annual Tortoise and Hare Run, as organised by Wells Classic Motorcycle Club, to raise much needed funds for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
This has become a very popular West Country event, attracting 150 entries from various parts of the country from as far afield as Yorkshire, Surrey, Northamptonshire, Wales, Devon and Dorset, although the weather forecast for the 2019 event wasn’t good, and did deter some of the local late entrants.
The Mayor flagged off the various run groups, assisted by the Town Crier, on to their various run routes, although soon after their departure the British weather did its best to disrupt proceedings by coming in wet and continuing, off and on, for the rest of the event.
